A physician's "accepting new patients" status is based on information provided by the physician. If the status is incorrect, the physician must contact the CPSA to update their profile.

A practice discipline is a branch of medicine in which a physician has specific training or experience, such as Family Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Psychiatry, etc. A physician is not a “specialist” unless indicated on their practice profile.
Practice Interests are identified by the physician but do not reflect any approval process and may or may not indicate specific additional training. A patient who wants to know about the training and experience of his or her physician should ask the physician for details.
Approval means an approval of the physician by the CPSA to perform a particular procedure or use a particular technology in a medical office setting. Only a small number of office-based procedures and technologies require specific approval from the CPSA. Approval is based on the training and experience of the physician. These approvals do not necessarily apply to the hospital setting, which is the responsibility of Alberta Health Services.
